Recently home from a great trip to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We were there for 5 days and the weather was really nice, cool, crisp fall weather. Highs in the 60’s lows in the 40’s. We hit the foliage perfectly, especially at the lower elevations. This is the second time that I’ve been to this park during the last week in October, and both times the fall foliage was at or near its peak. One bonus is that it snowed all night on Halloween night so we woke to snow on the ground. We drove into the park that day and what we could see was really beautiful. Most of the park roads were closed due to ice and/or downed trees so we couldn’t see much of it. At the lower elevations the drives through Cades Cove and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail were very colorful. All in all this was a great trip–wonderful weather, spectacular foliage, and great camping.
