This past week at Barnhart Q5 Ranch I added a few new species for my wildlife photography portfolio. Among them a Vermilion Flycatcher, Bobwhite Quail, and Wilson’s Phalarope. Also many new good shots including Whistling Ducks, Blue-winged Teal, Snowy Egret, Little Blue Heron, Lesser Yellowlegs, and Turkey Vulture. Many of these shots came on Wednesday. When I awoke to my 5:45am alarm it was windy and drizzling–very tempting to just go back to bed. Instead I decided to spend the morning out of the rain in a photo blind on the newly filled house pond at Q5 which turned out to be a great decision. The pond was teeming with wildlife and since I was settled in the blind for most of the morning a lot happened right on my end of the pond. And if you ever wondered why frogs lay so many eggs, it must be to feed water birds. I’ll bet I saw several hundred tadpoles consumed that morning! Another awesome day (and week )of shooting. Here are some of my favorite shots from this past week.
- A gray cat slinks past a wooden house. There’s something a little intimidating attempting to describe.
