I spent this week at the Barnhart Q5 Ranch again. Again it was a testy nature and wildlife photography week. Spotty showers, for a couple of days and heavy winds, especially on Wednesday where they were sustained at 20+mph with higher gusts. That said I still got some pretty great shots. Some good wading birds (little blue heron and green heron, finally some decent shots of the whistling ducks, and a bunch of great shots of a northern water thrush. I saw another horny toad so all is good!

You can be PROUD of this photo, Doug. In my mind, the mark of a great photo is one that catches the imagination and makes one want to look closer. The detail of this heron’s feathers – and the graceful way they’re curling is so beautiful!
Thanks Claire. One advantage of the wind is that it can do interesting things to fur and feathers. I really like the way the feathers curled too and I’ve always loved the feather detail and color of the green heron.
