Last week I spent my first days at the Q5 Ranch and Nature Retreat. While the weather wasn’t the greatest for wildlife photography–windy and spotty showers–it was nonetheless a fruitful trip. The ranch is teeming with birds. Resident northern cardinals and greenjays, along with tons of ground, whitewing, and mourning doves are all South Texas staples. The ranch also has a resident pair of Audubon’s Orioles, tons of woodpeckers, phoebe, and Couch’s kingbird. All in all I’m pretty happy with the first week’s shooting and beginning to learn the ranch’s layout. Also saw bunches of rabbits, heard lots of coyotes, and saw fresh bobcat tracks. Looks to be a promising spring at Q5.
- A gray cat slinks past a wooden house. There’s something a little intimidating attempting to describe.
